Farnborough International Airshow is held every two years and 1948 saw it gates opened to the public for the first time. This Airshow receives a phenomenal public following.
The event features about 150 aircraft in static displays and attracts more than 108,000 visitors. The show is a seven day international trade fair for the aerospace industry. Demonstration flights and flying displays are held each day of the show and on the last two days the general public are admitted. Farnborough is the oldest active airfield in the UK. The site has been associated with aircraft and airships since 1908. Most of the aeroplanes built during the First World War were built at Farnborough. The sound barrier was also broken at Farnborough by John Derry in 1948.
